Seven O’Clock Challenge
Every Sunday night at 7 p.m., The Greaser will take two songs that have the same music and same lyrics but are recorded by two different groups or artists. The Greaser will put the two songs against each other and you, the loyal listeners of Greene County Gold, get to vote for your favorite version.
New/Old Song
At 8 p.m. every Sunday night The Greaser will bring you a New/Old Song; “New” because he’s never played the song on Greene County Gold before. “Old” because the song has to fall between the years 1955 and 1970. And that’s how you get the “New/Old Song”.
The Flip Side
During the 1950s and 1960s, radio stations were sent 45 rpm records in the hopes of getting airplay. The “A” side of the 45 rpm was supposed to be the “hit” side. The “B” side, or “Flip Side”, was often a throwaway song.
At 8:30 p.m. every Sunday night, The Greaser will spotlight a song that was the “Flip Side” of a hit 45 rpm. After playing The Flip Side, The Greaser will play the song that was the hit.
Every once in a while, however, the Flip Side actually performed better on the charts than the intended hit. In that situation, The Greaser will play the song that was supposed to be the hit, followed by the song that was the hit.
The Game With No Name
Sunday nights at 9 p.m., The Greaser will play three songs back to back to back…and all three songs will have something in common. Sometimes it’s something to do with the groups or artists performing the songs. Sometimes it’s something in the title of the songs. Sometimes there’s a theme among the songs. Regardless what they have in common, you have to be the first caller to tell The Greaser what they have in common. The first caller able to do so wins a prize.
The Vinyl Vault
At 10 p.m. every Sunday night, The Greaser digs into his personal archives to bring you a song from original vinyl. That’s right; The Greaser actually plays you a song from a record. You see, these days most of the material you hear on radio has either been converted to a digital format or has been transferred to CD. But there is just something about hearing a song from vinyl…complete with the pops, crackles and hisses. So The Greaser digs into the archives once every Sunday night to bring you a song from vinyl. Sometimes it’s a 45 rpm, occasionally it’s a track from a 33 1/3 rpm, and once in a great while he goes really deep into the archives to bring you a song from a 78 rpm.
